Q Skinner believed punishment is the most common technique of control in modern life. He opposed the use of physical punishment to control behavior. He argued against its use because he believed that (1) its effects on behavior are only temporary, (2) it creates undesirable side-effects that give rise to emotional responses that prevent corrective action, (3) it may create strong conflict in people so that they become indecisive and timid and unable to act effectively, and (4) it may create resentment and hostility against the punisher that could lead to counter-attack. Do you agree with Skinner? How is punishment used to control behavior in society and the workplace? What are the limitations of punishment as a control technique? Is its use ever effective and desirable?

I believe that the opinion is correct and in some cases punishment is highly required. Obviously the punishment here does not mean physical punishment. I completely agree with Skinner that physical punishment sometimes create unnecessary side-effects. Rather punishment should be something which can teach a lesson to the individuals. Actually mistakes are very common for any individual and in case physical punishment is given to these individuals, they will have a tendency of being stubborn.
